I received three spools of thread for Christmas and I am not sure if they are for a machine or hand. The spools are longer than what I put on my machine and I do not know this brand.
Are any of you familiar with Wonderful Konfetti/Egyptian Cotton 50 wt 1000m? Can you tell me how it is used? I am not sure if it will fit on my Singer.

Sounds like a European brand. They are wound in a different pattern and come on longer spools than American-made brands. Some newer sewing machines allow you to change your spool holder from upright to horizontal to feed European threads appropriately. My machine doesn't, but still handles the European threads just fine. I use Mettler 50/3 a lot (means it is a 3-ply 50-weight thread) in my machine for both piecing and quilting. 1000 meters would be a little more than 1000 yards of thread on the spool.

You are a lucky lady to get Wonderfil thread for a gift! The Konfetti is a regular piecing cotton thread that is fine for your quilting needs - as mentioned already - 50/2 or 50/3 cotton is a standard regular sewing thread.
Wonderfil is a Canadian Company that I recently discovered at a LQS/sewing center that is highly recommended by the owner who is a real thread expert! It is still not widely found in our U.S. retailers and is only available through them or at shows. For some more info go to the Wonderfil.net site and check out their testimonials and product offerings. I bought a theme pack as a gift to myself for a great selection of the specialty threads they carry and look forward to using them soon.
