Ok, I got the idea of the D9P, but what if I want to use a special fabric that is a one way design...say puppy dogs and I want to use them as the focus fabric. I would place them in the upper outer corners of the 9 patch. How to I work it so that the puppies don't wind up on their heads? I would like to use the placement that makes the backgrounds look like a windmill. I know I'm not explaining this well, but I really could use some enlightenment here :?

I'd play with it on paper first, drawing the grid and putting smiley faces where the dog faces or whatever would be. Number the squares 1-9. Cut and arrange until you get your desired arrangement, then make notes on the ones that need to be reversed or changed.

I had thought of that too.. but haven't sat down to figure out which pieces need to be upside down and both sideways directions...

When you cut these blocks, and re sew them together, are they all done identically throughout the quilt? I have not made one before...

Oh Katier! That's exactly what I was looking for! You are awesome! Now to do the math to determine how much fabric I need...have ordered a panel with 12/ 5-6 blocks and want to see what I can do with it. Might be back on a different post for possible patterns....hmmm
