Bernina BSR
When I bought Bernice secondhand she came with a heap of extra feet including a walking foot and also a BSR. Well now, the purchase was about a year or so ago and there has been the odd moment of bravery when I have carefully taken the BSR box out of the drawer, placed it with great reverence onto the sewing table and gazed at it with awe......then opened the lid and gazed at it some more.........and then put it away.
Today I finally drew a big breath and had a "go". Oh my, oh my, oh my, be still my beating heart and why the blooming heck did I leave it sooooo long and feel soooooo scared of it!! What fun I had.......and now I can't wait to finish my current project with its straight line stitching as I have a gazillion ideas zooming around in my head......and they're all curvy!!!!!

Try the BSR in the 2 mode. It allows the needle to move only when you move the fabric. I find it gives me much better control. Also thread the bobbin thread through the little hole at the end of the bobbin case. That seems to help on the tension.

When I bought my Bernina 1530, this device didn't exist. Neither did the 1/4" foot. If you ever wear out your walking foot (I did), it only cost about $25 to get it fixed by a Bernina technician.

I use my BSR on my machine on the Bernina Quilt frame. It sure makes free motion much easier. I don't use it on my "domestic" machine - 440 QE because I have difficulty handling a quilt on the smaller machine. I found out a couple years ago that you should take your BSR in when you have your machine serviced because they will update the software in it! Who knew? Have fun!
