Walmart has CraZArt Super Washable Markers (box of 10 assorted colors) on sale right now for $.50 (regularly $1.97).

I tested about 8 Crayola Ultra Washable markers this morning on several colors of fabric. I marked them heavily in the top row, and with a finer point below. Then I let them dry, ironed them, washed them in All Free in warm water, then dried on permanent press. Results are as follows:

 Looks pretty bad!

Most of the color washed away. The worst culprits were the reds.

It's faint, but clear. Of course, these were big, thick marks. All the fine point marks washed away.

The white fabric was Kona, the others??? I'm glad to have done this as I need to mark a quilt for quilting tonight!

Mford, thank you so much!!!! Will definitely stay away from the reds. I'm using the ultra clean fine points so my lines will hopefully be fine. Again thanks for the experiment!

Our twin 4 year old grandchildren get them on everything...washes out of the clothes and anything else they color. I recently borrowed a couple to use for marking. So far so good!

I use the fine point washable markers all the time. They have never failed to completely wash out of my material no matter what color I'm using. Love these markers.

i tried every color on a piece of white cotton and every color washed out completely...mine are the crayola fine line washable pac of 10, ultra clean markers

also I let them dry completely, about 3 hours and pressed them also ,...washed out fine the next day.

I use the Frixion felt tip not ball point markers. It irons off and after washing, never returns.
