I have the 7570. Use IDT. Instead of a leader fabric, I keep tissue wrapping paper near my machine. I put a small piece of tissue under and over the end of my fabric as I start to sew. It rips off easily and goes along way. Make sure you thread you machine with the pressure foot up and put it down to thread the needle. This seems to help.

Same here.

I have 2 Pfaff machines and was taught to always hold the bobbin and top thread when I start to sew. Then I chain piece whenever I can. I always sew with the IDT engaged. I have never had the machine to eat my fabric. They are wonderful machines.

The single hole plate is the answer for you - all of my Pfaffs have done this until I purchased the plate.
