rail fence, split 9 patch, log cabin, split 4-patch. You could do it in the 30's reproduction, wool batting and minkee backing and it would be real toasty.

All of these suggestions are great. Don't be afraid of the wool batt! I used one last Christmas for the 1st time..quilted like buttah! Nice loft too..just remember the washing instructions down the road. To be safe, put a care label on the back.

Single Irish Chain is easy and you can use a striking focus fabric in the big squares.

so I've decided to go with rail fence because my mom only made 2 of these and gave them both away so there are none of those laying around my house. that's the main reason I didn't want to do log cabin or courthouse steps. Between the 2 of them, we must have about 5 laying around somewhere. Not that there's anything wrong with them, I just want to have different quilts than she does.

But as for colors, I'm going to use colors that will eventually go with my room (lilac and light green) But as the pattern I'm using needs 4 fabrics, I'm using a bright purple with yellow flowers, a solid yellow, a dark green with clovers on it because it was the only green we had that was the right shade and there was a lot of it so some of it can be used for a border, and because I liked the one green with small purple flowers the exact shade of my purple fabric, I'm using that. Well, until I measured it and found I was going to be 3 strips short! So I found a plain light green that would also work and will use that for one block in each row going diagonal down the middle, and as the quilt will be 5 blocks wide by 5 blocks long (they're big blocks which is great because I hate cutting!) I'll just do it right down the center.

I'm going to need to go to the store and find a dark purple fleece or flannel backing material which will also be a smaller inner border for the quilt, the outer border will be my clover material. I'm also still hoping for wool batting, but I may just go with fatt batt as I'm going to tie it.

I can't wait to get started! But I'm determined to finish another quilt first!

the purple is more of a crayola purple but you can see how the colors all flow!
