my 11yr old grandson requested a black and white print, so to keep it from getting boring i will topstitch it with red thread and border with black white and red print and bind with red.

When my grandsons were of that age, they were all excited to share with grandma what sports they were in and my daughter had even decorated their rooms with their favorite sports themes so I did a snowball quilt for each with fabric showing their favorite sport in the snowball. They were a real hit. It is simple and turns out great for boys.

I don't think a pattern is necessarily "too boy" or too girl". I think the fabric makes the difference.

Not so much problem with the pattern. The trick is the colors and fabric choice. Both of my children (girl and boy) got a Mother's Dream block quilt for their HS graduations in their school colors. My daughter's is red, white and blue, my son's just white and blue. I used traditional prints with hers and chose a navy and white hand dyed batik for his. They look totally different and his looks quite masculine. Whatever you do, I am sure he will cherish. Good luck!

You can enlarge the quilt by making more blocks, or by
adding borders. You could make the blocks larger,
but that a lot of work!
===========================

NOPE< this one is easy. If your printer won't enlarge anything,
go to Staples and have each one enlarged. This sounds like a neat thing
for a boy's quilt, and I plan on doing it for a new born Great Grandson.

I can simply outline a simple kid's puzzle (Texas Cowboys and Horses?)
and then enlarge them. I think that maybe putting bright colored pieces
on a dark background would do the job. Maybe one for a floor quilt, and
later a large one for a big boy's bed.

Just to note-if you are doing the puzzle quilt, that curves can be tricky to start with, especially keeping your seam allowances correct. Ask me how I know! :/

Does he like John Deer tractors. There is plenty of that out there. Wild life would also be nice.

A few years ago I was in a quandary as to what pattern to use for my grandson that age. I ended up using Snail Trails, and he loved it! I really enjoyed making it. Would send picture but he has the quilt!
