Me too. I use bias on bed quilts for durability, but smaller items that don't get handled as much can be bound with straight binding.

I use straight of grain for rectangular and square quilts. Never had a problem.

All of my quilts so far have had straight sides (not curved or scalloped), so I always use straight of grain bindings. I have never used bias bindings.

Mine are on the straight of grain also. You use alot more fabric cutting on the bias

I always use continuous bias binding because once you try it a couple of times you'll never want to use anything else. It doesn't take many yards of fabric for quite a bit, even doubling and folding it over for easy application to the quilt sandwich no matter what the edge design is.

Do you have a coordinating fabric that you could use?

PS the binding is generally the most worn part of the quilt. Using bias binding allows some stretch. I don't think that you use more fabric, considering it's doubled and MUCH easier once you get the hang of it.
