help with shadowbox quilt, please.
My relative wants shadowbox quilt with many different sized blocks. How do I figure out how to set the blocks so quilt looks balanced. I started by dividing finished inner area (before borders) into quadrants and then placing various blocks into one quadrant with diagonal quadrant as same layout as balance method. On remaining quadrants, changing order of first layouts, and balancing on diagonal. Is there a better method?

It sounds like a challenge to make them different sizes. You might want to look at some sampler quilts to see how blocks can be done.
Perhaps a 3, 6 and 12 design would work. Be sure to add proper seam allowances so the finished sizes work. Another option is to add sashing to make up the size block desired.

The beauty of the shadow box is that you can play with sashing (background color) to get odd sizes to fit together. I did that on this T-shirt quilt Double sided T-Shirt quilt
I tried to make the blocks using a common denominator as Rhonda K suggested. I didn't work in quadrants but tried to get large sections of the quilt to fit together then fudged the sashing size to get to all work.

I like your idea of dividing the area, you just have to divide each quadrant - and the sections don't have to be equal sizes. Just remember you have to add the sashing to each unit.
