Just wondering - how many 'deliberate/humility 'mistakes' did you see in them?

As a comparison -

Would the person consider a piece of furniture from IKEA to be 'not real furniture' - or would it have to be hand sawed and made by someone 'at home' to be considered 'real furniture'?

We had a woman who left the Amish speak at our guild about Amish quilts. She told us that the 'humility' block is just a myth that got started somewhere. She said the Amish would NEVER be so conceited as to think they are more perfect than God and that they have to build a mistake into a quilt!! Plus, if you build in something that is wrong for the design, it's not a mistake, it's a design decision.

My quilts would never appease the Quilt Police. You know what? I don't really care because I put equal amounts of love and skill into each one of them. I'm sorry you had such a 'drilling' from her, but I'm glad you were able to put her in her place. Wish I were a fly on the wall - I'd be buzzing her off big time!!

My first question to anyone that points out all the mistakes I know about quilting is to ask How many quilts have you made? If the answer is none then I say it will be pointless discussing what I made with you. People like that are not worth my time and I make sure they understand that. I am the queen of ignore. LOL

Love your replies. I have some coworkers that quilt and one has told her mother not to give her quilts for the silent auction we hold because people will not pay even close to what just the fabric costs, since they don't appreciate the work.

GOOD FOR YOU!!! People that don't do quilting etc. always know just how it is done. But, they won't even try. I guess they must know better.

I've been reading all the replies, and I love yours the best. I can't believe the nerve of some people. It makes my blood boil. If people are going to comment on things, they need to know the facts before they do.

I am personally a fan of "well, isn't that special...." followed by silence and a blank stare.
