I have made quite a few either rag quilts or combined with flannel. They do get really heavy. But you cant beat them for warmth....wonderful for camping. I have one going now for friends of DH ....been working on it for 2 years now....just because it's heavy and boring to work on. I cant wait to get it done and then I think it will be a while before I agree to work in denim again.

Oh nice quilts ladies! I have been pigeon holing a stash of jeans for years in preparation for a couple denium quilts.
I made each of my boys one for thier twin beds when they were young. They valued them and had those quilts until very recently. The denium fabric makes very good quilts for camping, picnics and cars and are very durable.

I've made several jeans quilts. Sometimes I machine embrodiery on the blocks. I usually use 6 /12" blocks, which I keep a large supply of. I'm planning on make two in the very near future. I'll alternate the jeans blocks with a cotton block. I'm not going to use batting bc I've found with the jeans the quilts is heavy enough. I think I'll do raggy bc they are pretty quick.

Here's a quilt I made for my dad out of old jeans. I even included the blown out knees from my sons jeans. It was definitely heavy and a beast to quilt. Not sure I will ever make another one like that....I had a mini melt down when quilting it. Maybe if I get a long arm I'll tackle another denim quilt.
My dad was a pilot in the USAF and I pulled the plane design off a quilt my grandmother (his mother) made for me when I was 3. He loved it!

My Dad always wears denim bib overalls and I've got a bunch of his old ones that I intend to make into quilts. If I can collect enough I'd like to make one for each of us four kids. He's 92 and it will be a nice keepsake after he's gone. I'm thinking of including the worn pockets as well. He always has a red handkerchief in his pocket and I'd like to have one sticking out of the pocket. I'd also like to include the bibs but still haven't figured that out. Maybe a center medallion type square.
