I am fortunate enough to belong to a wonderful group of women that has been retreating together for years. We're a small group (6 in all), and we've been able to retreat in each others homes several times a year. Just have to chase the hubby out for the weekend!

I also used to go to a weekly working bee meeting, so I've done a lot of sewing away from home!

I bought a cheap toolbox from walmart that I keep filled with the small necessities for a retreat:
rippers
wooden iron
pens
pencils
paper scissors
fabric scissors
sharpie for writing on fabric
notepad
several spools of thread in neutral colors
pre-wound bobbins in neutral colors
rotary cutter
replacement blades
container for old blades
pins
pin cushion
medicine bottle for broken, bent pins & needles
replacement sewing machine needles
rubber bands
stain removal pen
metal tape measure
1x6 ruler
nail clippers
bandaids
chapstick
travel toothbrush & toothpaste
bodkin
nail file
tweezers
point turner
small screwdriver
masking tape
regular tape

Before I leave, I will add my phone charger so I know where to find it. I know I take more than I need, but there have been times that someone has needed every thing in my toolbox. I have duplicates of everything so I don't have to raid my toolbox for everyday needs.

Having this all put together sure helps someone whose memory is slipping!

Love your list! I always feel like I am moving out of the house, but you do need a lot of stuff!

Umbrellas with clothes- lost on this one- Does this mean personally for rain and stuff to wear or is it a quilting term?- j

Be sure to bring your sewing machine foot pedal and your cord. occasionally one of our friends forgets to pack theirs.

I went to my first retreat recently. All of the lists in this thread are good...just keep in mind how much room each of you will have available for working and for "stuff."

I took extra rotary cutter blades 'cause I was doing both paper piecing and regular cutting. Another member didn't bring blades, dropped her cutter and chipped the blade on the tile flooring. Fortunately, my extra blades fit her cutter.

I was told to bring "plenty of projects" but ended up taking too much. But, better too much than running out!

Top on my list is a table light. lighting at a retreat is usually not that great!!

No, my umbrellas don't actually have their own clothes or quilting supplies. :0 Good catch! One of the retreats I attend in the spring uses three different buildings...for sewing, eating, and sleeping. You never know where you'll be when mother nature decides to rain on your parade.

The lists provided above are great. I just returned from our guild's very first retreat and thoroughly enjoyed it. We went to Lake Junaluska, NC and stayed in the hotel there. They provided some of our meals and a room we could sew in all hours of the day and/or night. I brought 3 different projects - each of them I pre-cut and kitted so I wasn't missing anything when I got there. (Actually got all 3 done) I also had some hand projects to take back to my room for the insomnia time I invarably have. I will remember to mark my extension cords in the future. I brought a small fold up table (not a card table) that I put my paper piecing iron on right behind my sewing table. As there were only 11 of us attending, we all got one whole table to ourselves. What a peaceful time, sewing without all the interruptions.
