I honestly think you could go either way and it would still look great.

I would be curious as to the definition of "thin". I think that would look out of balance and look too small. Personally, I'd just put a red binding on it or make the border make a statement.

When I'm trying to decide on the width of a border, I will use the block size as my guide. Personally, I wouldn't make a border narrower than the width of the blocks.

Just my opinion.

I don't crosshatch very often, but when I do, I use that blue painter's tape. I just put it from corner to corner and sew along one side, then do that again, two inches from the last...again with the painter's tape. It works quite well. I even reuse the tape once or twice. Might be worth a try...

Unless you need it a certain size, I vote for no borders & yarn tied. Looks so cozy! If you need a border, I'd go with either that deep blue-violet in the middle or the muted dusty green in top right corner. Saturated red is such a strong color that if you add even more with a border, the other colors will get overpowered & lost; it will end up just looking like a "red" quilt. Not a problem if that's your goal but I think pulling out another color in the quilt will help the red to shine & bring out some of the other colors as well.

I think a thin white border first then green or red. but you need to contain the squares in a white first.

I like it just as it is, with no border. To me the red and white would make it too Christmasy.

Cross hatching would really complement the blocks. I will encourage you to try it because it is quite easy. Just draw some lines and quilt. You can use your walking foot if you like. It will also go quickly.
