A couple of years ago my DD bought me "The Quilter's Workbook" from Laudauer - I believe she got it at JoAnns. It's a three-ring 8" x 5 1/2" binder with a very nice Glossary of quilting terms and definitions, with a Table of Contents that takes you from fabric know-how to finishing the quilt. It has a section on using a color wheel, learning applique basics, making various blocks in different sizes, converting measurements, reducing and enlarging blocks, etc. Also has blank tabs to set the book up to your needs.
