Default Quilting Groups - Are you in a quilting group?

Are you in a quilting group? How often do you meet? How are your meetings organized? What do you do during your meetings? Just curious.

We have sit and sew every other Friday. We have food, talk and quilt our own project. Sometimes we do a group craft like beach bags or paper(cloth) dolls.

We meet once a month, rotating between member's homes. We're very loosely organized. We have show-n-tell, lunch, and hang out. We go on retreats once or twice a year. Someone might take a class and will share what she learned. We laugh A LOT. I love my group of quilt girlfriends - can't live without them!

I belonged to a group that was pretty much pot luck lunch and show and tell. Everybody came early enough to visit for half an hour or so before lunch got set out and while we cleaned up and then we'd have show and tell and head for home. It was not a guild. There was no president or by laws or any of that. The meetings moved around from town to town or township and we'd have them in old school lunch rooms and VFWs and an old community building and once in a while a library meeting room. There were always two hostess that were responsible for drinks and clean up. The orginater of that group moved and it mostly disbanded. Some of the ladies in one of the towns still have the get togethers though. I would still go but I live too far away now.

I belong to a small group, we call ourselves the Cutups. There are 10 of us and we meet twice a month at the library. One meeting a month is dedicated to learning something new and the other meeting we bring out machines and sew, sew, and sew. We have been on 4 retreats so far and are now planning to have 3-4 per year. I LOVE MY GROUP.

I belong to a quilt club- we meet every Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 we don't have any rules- officers. We meet at a local community building that lets us use it for free. We have one organized quilt a month , if you want to sew it fine , if not bring something else to work on Very laid back We do 2 charity items a year , last year we made baby quilts for tornado victims in Missouri and Christmas Stocking for the residents of the building we use . The kind lady that started the group wants to take a break so I will be taking over as "Leader" In the Spring we had an all day sew in at another community center and for that one we made it a pot luck lunch - for the Wednesday nights we bring snacks. We also try once a month to learn/teach new things

My group meets the first and third Thurs. of the month. We have show and tell, we bring our machines and sew, we take turns doing lunch. There are 12 of us and 3 people volunteer to do lunch. We meet at the church so we make baby quilts for anyone baptized in the church. We also plan on trips to the quilt shop once a year. No on is in "charge" we just all work together. Just a fun group. By the way, we got started by me announcing in church that I would like to start a quilt group. Several people appoached me and the rest is history.

My sister and I are in the process of setting up a group from where she attends church and where I attend church. Our first meeting of the "Mad Quilters" will be the second Monday evening in Sept from 7:00-8:30. At the time, we'll discuss what the others would like to see happen at each meeting. So far, it's bring your own stuff and work. It will not be a quild, no fees, no president, no bylaws--just quilters having fun, exchanging ideas and helping others with techniques. We just got the word out so I'm not sure how many we'll have--so far us and 2 others but hopefully there will be more interest in quilting.

I've organized and belonged to two small groups since moving to NH 16 yrs ago - we'd meet from 10 to 2 every Thursday in each other's homes. Hostess provided coffee/tea and often some breakfast sweets; we all brought our own lunches. We brought handwork and sat and sewed, talked, shared info, laughed and had a wonderful time. Over the years most of the members moved away.
I tried several times to start another group - always failing.
Was telling Gail Peck, the owner of Quilters Workshop in Newport, that I'd actually become depressed not having friends to quilt with.
Gail, bless her, told me about the open sew in her shop - meets every Wednesday from 9:30 am to 9 p.m. (store itself actually closes at 5:30 or 6 and I don't last past 6). There's an ironing board w/ iron and large cutting table with rulers and rotary cutters. We all bring our own machines and projects.
We're a small group, usually 3 or 4 and we have a wonderful time and get alot done. I drive an hour each way almost every week.
