Ditto so many others - all of the above! I have always been creative, when I was young I painted and sketched. Now my focus is on my family, decorating my home, and things of that nature so quilting is just a perfect fit. It's a creative outlet, something that I am always learning mkore about so it satisfies my need to "discover" new things, it's a great way to decorate, they make great gifts, there is so much variety in the quilting world that I never get bored, and it's a great way to be productive while "relaxing". I am a stay at home mother but miss having goals and achieving success in the workplace some days, so improving my quilting skills and getting some validation for that through quilt shows is something that appeals to me and keeps me striving to be better. For me it's just a perfect fit! ;) It's been six years since I began quilting and I'm still obsessed!

My last 2 quilts have been UFOs that my aunt made 50 yrs ago - the look on her face when they were returned to her completed!!

The look on the faces are the best and the high I get is indescribable!!!
What a wonderful thing to be able to do for your aunt!
I agree, I love the look on the faces!

I love the challenges quilting represents - I love making something that in my opinion fits the person I'm making it for and I love the look on their face when they open the gift and see what I've made with love ( oh lets not forget sweat and tears). he he

I love the feeling I get when someone loves my quilt. Usually they go home with it. I do not make quilts with a certain person in mind. Once they are done then they find a home. I will not put one in a show that is being judged. Way too much stress!! I love fabric, I love making people happy, I love to take a piece of fabric and see what becomes of it, I just plain love quilting.

Don't really think it's necessary for true quilters to have a "purpose". I read somewhere on this site:
"I QUILT, THEREFORE I AM"

ALL of the above! You don't need a "purpose" for any other hobby other than the joy of creating so it's okay if you don't have any real purpose for quilting. It's a very enjoyable, pieceful pastime.

As a wife, mom, and home-maker, it's so nice to be able to do work that allows me to be especially creative and, best of all- STAYS DONE! :D It really gives me a boost and, at the same time, is so relaxing. I'd love to someday create a beautiful "masterpiece" or two, but for now, I'm working my way through making functional quilts for my husband and all my kiddos.
