I like EB, she is just naturally a happy person, she can't help her voice/accent. I like her in spite of it.

I really like Nacy Zieman's show, it has been on forever it seems like and she has gone more to quilting now.

I used to like Simply Quilts with Alex Anderson, but now when I watch her with Ricky Tims, she acts like a groupie with a silly smile.

Eleanors Burns and several others were teachers for young children, and just picked up a habit of speaking that way. I try to ignore the voice and listen to the hints.

I watch them all the time. I tape them so I can fast forward if they annoy me or it's something I know.

I agree with you on this. I record them to watch, F&P in our area, and I never finish watching them.
I have taken a class with Eleanor Burns, and she is exactly the same in person. She said she used to teach special ed, so she is used to dealing with difficult learners. The funny part is that in the class everyone loves that EB persona, I found it bit grating after a while, the cute songs, the childish jokes, but the other folks in the class were eating it up. But she also imparted a lot of really good knowledge, so she is a good teacher.

I sometimes teach computer networking to adults and I have all different levels of knowledge in the class, so my take is I have to assume the lingo and devices being taught are new to the whole class. If someone doesn't get the point in a lesson, I try to take it from another angle.

I would think that much of the same is happening on quilt shows. They have to assume a lack of knowledge in their audience to make sure they are giving useful information for all levels of education, beginner and advanced.

If you ever watched Alex Anderson on Simply Quilts you would be aware that she acted like a brainless groupie anytime she had a man, any man, on the program. I am not an Alex Anderson fan! In an earlier post I said she had good guests and in my opinion they carried the show. At times she was actually rude to some guests.

I never heard why they cancelled the show, maybe because she was quite the prima donna?

We don,t have any quilting shows on tv here either. Watched Simply Quilts for years and learned a lot from the guests she had on. Wish someone would bring some shows back.

I often can't get on the compuger until night and I fell asleep SO many times listening to those voices on quilting shows/demos. I would tape the shows and then try to watch them. I learned I HAD to watch them by noon or I just didn't have what it took to make it through one. They really are hard to listen to in my book, but I love the information! :)

I DVR them so I can watch them later. I just watch EB and chuckle because she reminds me SO much of a retired fourth grade teacher I worked with! Same chuckling and cheery voice, speaking at the same speed. Everyone loved that retired teacher.
