Quilts you like from magazines? Organize?

I photocopy the table of contents page of my magazines and put them in a notebook. I keep the magazines in date order in bank boxes. When I need a new idea I look through the notebook pages and find the magazine I want to use.

Seems these days or just that I've noticed it now, most of our quilting magazines come digital too so I go thru the digital set, download any quilt pattern that catches my eye at the time, put them into a folder by the month/year onto my PC. I do this for all the magazines I have a subscription to. I also copy the photo of any quilt that catches my eye say from this site and put it into a folder called "Future Quilts". So when I'm looking for a new idea, I can go thru this folder for ideas and then look for the pattern or try to come up with my own pattern.
Got the idea from this site for putting my D9P blocks on point and it came just in the knick of time as I was getting ready to put the blocks together that very day. Also get ideas for color schemes from just looking at photos of quilts from the various sites.
Oh yes, I do keep my magazines too just in case I have a PC crash.

I usually keep them but for those that I want to make sure I do not misplace I scan them in and keep an electronic copy. I am not sure what I would do 100 magazines - I suppose go through them and scan what I liked and then being a pack rat would pack them up and put them in the attic....

I have a couple books I got at an estate sale and have purchased a couple. They have templates and a wealth of information. I just received the Fons and Porter Love of Quilting Magazine. Didn't realized I purchased a subscription but I'll send them a check anyway. There are so many sites on this board thanks to the many who link, I just add to my favorites or bookmark.(easier for me to just add to my favorites). There are many free patterns and I copy the ones I like then put them into a binder. I am currently in search of Fons and Porters "COSMO" pattern. Sent them an email so I could purchase it. Friend of mine makes a list of the quilts she makes and she writes where to find the pattern, whether it be in the magazine (Name of magazine, month, year) in a notebook for reference. She also attaches a photo.

wow quite the dilema. i would keep them all but put them in acid free boxes and stack them. write on recipe cards what books and patterns are in the box and tape it to the outside. then on a rainy day , you can tell at a glance which box you want to look through for inspiration.. just a thought. gibbette
