    Default Rag quilt question

Are rag quilts safe for little babies? I just finished one, but it has so many loose ends, I think I'd be afraid to give it either to a very small baby, or a toddler that puts everything in his mouth. What do you think?

Get your snippers and tweezers out. Shouldn't have loose ends that have any length.

I don't make rag quilts for babies because the rags can be pulled off and swallowed.

I think I would either wash the quilts until nothing was shedding any more - or wait until the child is older to give it to him/her.

I wouldn't use with small babies as they might aspirate [breathe in] threads. As they get older then they chew and could ingest the threads.

I think if the rag quilt was made with fleece it would be okay. The fleece has no fibers to come off and it is really strong. If the cotton fabrics had short rags (1/2 inch)I don't know that they would be a problem either. I have done Chenille baby blankets and that fringe is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch long and I have never worried about a baby sucking it off.
