I was playing around with this Friendship Star. It is gold in the center, blue violet and med. blue with a speck of violet in the star points Lt. blue then a dk. blue border. I am thinking of a 2 inch violet border, then a 2 inch gold border , then a larger blue violet border.
Now I think I will make it into a double sized quilt for my grandson. He says he likes blue so dark it is almost purple.
So my question is...what should I use to make it full sized? More borders? Smaller stars? squares? something else. I will want to make it mostly blue violet. With the blue border on it now it is 24 inches sq.

well you're going to make more than one block, right? it would take several to fit the top of his bed, then borders.

I was thinking of leaving the 24 inch block like a medallion and surrounding it with????

I would fill in with smaller blocks until you get fairly close to your finished size, and then add borders, if you wish them. 24 in. is too small to be the only block for a quilt that size, IMHO.

Yes to the medallion idea! The next border should be pieced -- do you have more of the medium blue from the star? You could use that and the light blue and the violet.

I have more of ALL of it. I really didn't want to do more of the friendship star in a smaller size but that would probably look the best. The squares in the 24 inch square are 4 inches and the single dk blue border makes it the 24 inch....so far.
lol this is fun.
I have never just made a square and went from there.;-)

you can add borders or sashings around the main star block and then add pieced blocks. maybe even flying geese. should end up a nice looking quilt!!

What if you made different size friendship stars or different stars of different sizes and sprinkle around the Center block. Then frame the top of the bed with a border to frame it and then add borders from there for length and width.
