I use steam or Best Press on the seam lines and if they don't come out I cut around them. My pieces get pressed as I need them and some of them have been in the shelf for A LONG time.

Personally I'd rather spend my time sewing than washing and ironing fabric. There is no reason not to wash it though if that's what you want to do.
