Default Ruler for Farmers Wife Quilt

I'm getting ready to order the book/cd for the Farmers Wife. Do I need a special ruler for this? The pattern looks pretty ambitious, but I think I'm ready to tackle it. Will probably be a by hand project while I'm recuperating from a little surgery.

I have started this quilt but haven't needed any specialty rulers. Just a long ruler to cut strips, a shorter ruler to cut smaller pieces, and a square up ruler. I did paper foundation piece a lot of my blocks though which would be difficult by hand. The blocks are old patterns and back then only a ruler for measuring, paper and pencil for templates and scissors were used. I plan on putting it together QAYG with sashing when I get the rest of the blocks done.

Karen Walker also has a series of classes for the FWQ. The classes run (I think) around $10 and have the detailed instructions for 8-10 blocks. I have the book but liked her directions instead of figuring them out (and probable making calculation errors!) on my own I originally came across her classes on Craftsy.

I received the book a couple days ago and it's really interesting to read the letters. I'm anxious to begin the actual quilt, but it has to wait until I finish a, hopefully, short few days in the hospital. I definitely am taking the book with me to read even if I can't work on it. Some of the blocks look really complicated but most appear pretty simple.

I just joined another online group yahoo, The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt Along, and plan to paper piece but some people are using rulers successfully.
