where can i get some good safety pins for holding my quilt layers together that will not rust. Eleanor Burns has some but gives sizes of 1,2 and 3. I only have a few very large ones left. used them for many other things over the years but could use some now. Any stores that really have good ones??

The last safety pins with the curve in them that were marked quilters safety pins were strong but dull. I ditched them and went with $ Store ones that were not very strong but very sharp. A little more difficult to do up without the bend but much easier to get through the quilt sandwich.

I have purchased mine from JoAnns. They are pricey, but I like the curve and just used them on a king quilt. None came undone and my back is as good as my front. I did buy them with a 50% off coupon, tho. Mine are by Dritz Quilting, size 2 and are 1 1/2 inch. Package said 75 Curved Brass Basting Pins.

thanks so much. I've heard horror stories of rusting, not that I am leaving these in long. Oh remembered i have some in a quilt! waiting to be quilted, of course. I still need more for this one.

I found more of the smaller ones worked best for me, fist sized closeness. I never had any rust over many years, but they were good, bought new, not ones I had hanging around. The large ones, although quicker to use and easier on the hands allowed too much slosh/movement in the layer, my opinion only. That said, I don't hand quilt any more so seldom use my jar full. If you would like to trade (200-ish at a guess) for a priority envelope of scraps I'd be happy to barter. Fat quarters are yardage to me, I do mean scraps Sharyn

no problem, happy pinning I was really happy with spray basting...except for the actual spraying, what a mess, what an odor.

I always bought mine at Walmart. They never rust, I have the first ones I ever bought. I have several hundred of the large regular safety pins. All I ever use. I can pin 8 43 x 53" quilts at once.

I do spray basting too but am tired of doing without a lot of space and taking folding tables outside isn't so easy anymore. I'm thinking of quilting as I go for other quilts. sections or rows or just blocks.

Never use them, prefer to use a needle and thread.
