Help!!! I'm making this twin size quilt for my 15 year old daughter. I can't decide if I should sew the white sashing in between the blocks or if I should just sew the blocks together!?!?!? What would you do???

FYI: This is a Disappearing Nine Patch pattern. It will be 3 x 4 blocks. Each "patch" in the block of nine is 9 inches which makes a finished block that's about 25 inches! I'm having it quilted with edge to edge, fist-sized peace signs and swirly "stuff" all over! (I got the idea from someone on this board!!!)

    I hope she likes it!!! Shhh . . . it's a surprise!!! :o)

I like both, but if I have to make a decision I vote for no sashing.

That is a difficult question. I really like both. If I was forced to choose, I think maybe without sashing.

The quilt is so colorful, so very beautiful and vibrant. I don't know, to my eye the sashing breaks up the color. If you like the sashing, would you consider a colored sashing, saying using one of the colors in the quilt? Then your eye could run smoothly across the quilt instead of being "stopped" by what feels to me like artificial boundaries in the white sashing.

Just my opinion. It would be beautiful any way you do it.

I generally like sashing, but in this case, I like it better without. The important question is what you daughter will prefer.

I like it without as I like the secondary pattern you get with d9p.

I would have to agree. For me the white sashing is to stark of a contrast and I really like the secondary pattern that you get without sashing.

    With sashing.
To my eyes, the design morphs to modern with the white sashing. And it works since you have a fair amt of white in the blocks. With the white, it's more clean and fresh; without the white, it's more cozy and mysterious.
So...which way does your daughter's taste go?

I like it both ways, too.

In my mind, it depends on how you will quilt it. I like to see a block treatment with SID when there are sashes, and an overall treatment when there aren't sashes.

And another consideration is how it will be laundered....

But the best consideration is which one your daughter will like better! :-D

Pretty pretty quilt! I like both ways but if it were to be mine, without sashing.
With sashing is neat, organized and less "busy" and without sashing is more eclectic and much busier.
    What does your daughter think?

Lovely quilt. I prefer the one with the sashing--just looks tidier to me. As the others have said, it doesn't really matter what we like, what would your DD want? Maybe you could find a pic or two and show her and ask her opinion without telling her about your secret.
