I have a Baby Lock Jazz2, Singer Futura and a Brother sc9500. I want to do Sashiko and I know it can be done but can't find which stitch on any of these would work. I really don't want to try it on the Jazz2. Just got it. I seen a couple of videos on the Brother machines but can't see what stitch they are using clearly. Any one have suggestions? Thank you so much for any help.

It's my understanding that to get a Sashiko stitch, you need a Sashiko machine.
Can you post a link to the video you watched?

I found a couple of videos that attempted doing Sashiko on a sewing machine. One lady just used a regular stitch, heavy white thread on top, bobbin matching the darker background. What she produced looked nothing at all like Sashiko. I don't know why she thought it did. The other used one of the special stitches on a Brother sewing machine, invisible thread on top and tension adjusted so that the dark bobbin thread came up on top. Hers looked a little like Sashiko that had been poorly done, not very attractive IMHO.

I took a workshop from my guild on Sashiko several years ago and really enjoyed it. I made one piece during the class and finished another at home, but haven't incorporated them into a finished item yet. I really think it's one of those art forms that should be done by hand.

I love sashiko stitching and would love to try it out, but heard you had to have a machine to do it. Please let me know if you find a viable option. Thanks.

This YT shows how to do a sashiko stitch on a regular machine and it does come out looking pretty good. Crazy thing is I’ve got that machine sitting in the back of my closet. I’ll have to pull it out and try it one day.

That's one of the videos I watched. I didn't think the stitches looked very good compared to real sashiko. (The picture is from the video.)

I took a class many years ago with Sharon Pederson I think her book was Sensational Sashiko, I really enjoyed it, but I don’t have my classwork anymore. We used a very heavy white thread on top, and a thread in the bobbin that actually matched our fabric.

Really? Overall I thought it looked pretty good. Oh well. You could bite down on the $2600 sashiko machine. At least there are several online classes if you go the hand route.

I think the Brother did a good job making the stitch.
