I save anything 1" and over. I love paper piecing small log cabin blocks.4" blocks (sometimes 3") are my favorite. These are great for scraps, small enought to be quick to piece and multiply fast! I have piles ot these to dig into when I need to make a small gift,a purse, pot holder etc in a hurry.

I cut things down to 4.5" squares and 6.5" strips as much as possible. Then out of what's left...any super narrow strips (half-inch or smaller) I stash to use as ribbon for gifts, twine for the garden, etc. Anything bigger or that's an odd shape I use in crazy quilts; I sew them down to 12.5 inch squares of thin muslin. I really love my crazy quilts; the random "anything goes" sewing is very therapeutic to me and the resulting quilt makes me happy because every little bit reminds me of the quilt (or quilts) it was originally used in. I often make them 2-sided (crazy on both sides!) and use batting scraps inside (that I've sewn or fused together).

I too have lots of small scraps and they are all sizes, colors and shapes. I am in the process of making a quilt as you go project. I'm using a white back because of all the colors. The white will also be the sashing. My top(scraps) and batting is 7 1/2" and the backing is 9 1/2" which gives me one inch around block to sew blocks together and make the sashing. By the fabric being all different sizes, the abstract quilting is beautiful. Just an idea. I work on this as a second project.

I'm a Bonnie Hunter fan (her quilts are to die for) and have sorted my scraps by colors and have cut everything into 2.5, 3, 3-1/2, 4, 4-1/2 inch blocks & strips. I'm sewing the 2-1/2" blocks into 4 patches for now but can't decide on how to put them together. I'm sewing on a treadle machine that's 111 years old. So much fun. It's surprising how fast these little blocks go together. I've got 40 - 4 patches and I've only been working on them this week in my spare time. My mother always made scrappy quilts and I guess I inherited her genes.

I use them for mug rugs,pot holders and placemats.I hoard scraps,lol-need to get rid of more of them.
