2 white-handles clovers
1 brass - has matching awl and threader, got on ebay
2 cheapie blue $1.00 ones
1 flat green one - was in my goodie bag handed out at last
quilt retreat I went to
1 Bernina - came with machine
1 Pfaff - came with machine
So - 8, that I know of.
My preference is the brass or white-handled Clover.

I have at least 4 or 5 of the cheaper variety, some came with sewing machines and some came from daughters' sewing kits purchased for school. The only one I ever specifically bought is pretty dangerous. It's more like a craft knife in appearance and I keep a guard over the curved blade. I do NOT use that one if I am tired or really aggravated with my sewing self.

I probably have at least 10, but my favorites are the surgical rippers, with or without handles. They will slip under any stitch and rip it effortlessly. They are VERY sharp, but that is also the reason they are my favorite. I think I got the plain ones from either Clotilde or Nancy's Notions. The one with the handle is made by Clover and available at fabric stores or quilt shops.

And how do you do it? Thanks, I'm in need.

Item #1 and 6 are the same thing, and this is the one I like the best.

I have 2 from Bernina, 1 surgical (never used) and a generic one, but for just a few stitches still use my small scissors. For longer seams I use a battery powered seam reaper that I picked up at a show. It is made by Wahl and is probably a small mustache trimmer but works great on longer seams. I also use my rotary cutter. Eleanor Burns uses that method and also saw Judy Neimeyer use it in a class I took from her.
