Stitchengramie, if I have to make a lot of hst I use the Wondercut Ruler. If I only have several to make, I make them 1" larger and square them up to the size I need.

When I sew my HSTs I usually add a whole inch to the finished size of the square and then square it up/cut it down. Yes, it adds a step, but I don't have to struggle.

I always round up to the inch, vs. the 7/8. Makes it much easier to trim to accurate.

Add me to the extra inch folks. I have tried to do it with 7/8 like it says, but when my 1/2 squares were off a hair it would make me fret too much. So I add the inch to make the squares and cut them down like the others here said. Not too much extra work, less bad language. :)

I also add 1 inch to finished size instead of that miserable 7/8 inch and trim down.

I like to think that I'm a relatively accurate sewer, and I almost ALWAYS end up with skimpy squares when I only add that 7/8 inch.

It's so much easier to trim off a shaving when squaring up the units than to try to compensate for skimpy units.
