I want to make a quilt for a friend who just found out that her mom is in the last stages of brain cancer . My friend is having such a hard time right now so I thought I would surprise her with a quilt. Her favorite colors are black and tans/ gold so I thought I would use several of these colors. Does anyone have or know of a commercial quilt pattern that goes together fairly quickly but still looks impressive? I would like to use mostly small-patterned solids so I do not want to use a "Just can't cut it".

The disappearing 9 patch looks like it took lots of effort, but is so easy. And it would look yummy in the black/tan/gold color scheme. I'd probably put the black and gold in the four corners and the tans in the rest of the squares(which will get cut up)

I agree with Jennie and Me - DP9 would be my suggestion as well.

Here is one that I did with three colors - In the nine patch before I cut, I put the Browns in the four corners the golds in between and the orange in the center. It was quick and when done looks more complicated than it really is.

​I think Magic Squares from MSQC would be great in your colours. Jenny has a nice tutorial up for it.

My suggestion as always is WARM WISHES. Pick one large print for the framed square, pick a second matching but a bit smaller print for the un-framed square. The chose two of the darker colors for the sides of the rail fence block and a neutral for the center rail. I also prefer teeny tiny prints or tonals for the rail fence blocks.

Google "warm wishes quilt pattern" and you'll get plenty of info.

I've made this one twice! Goes together fast, easy and fun. Think it would look great with black background and a mix of golds/tans.

I had just sorted through some patterns last week and came across a few I am no longer interested in. I am selling this for $3.

I like the Boxed Squares from Quilters Cache. It's simple, cut a 2 1/2 in square and the boxed it in with anorth color, square on top and bottom the rectanles along the side. go one more them around to make it larger. You can use lots of different fabrics or a few, just mix them up.
