I made the 'giving quilt' by Jennifer Chiaverini, one of my favorite authors. It went together very fast and looks teriffic. Here's the link for the free download.

The Jelly Roll 1600 quilt goes together quickly. No cutting. I would choose bright colorful colors to cheer her up.
The colors you listed look like they would remind her of death instead of living...
Theres a large assortment of jelly rolls available to choose from.

How about Cocouts by The Peaceful Quilter ! It is rich looking and easy to put together, you could randomly add the gold. I made two of these for Christmas gifts, and both were well received...... It was a kit (You could make 2 for a larger quilt!

All you need is two colors - a background and whatever you want for the triangles. Edie
Edie ... I was intrigued with your description and went to check it out. Although I cannot find Floating Stars at Quilters Cache. Is it by another name? Or perhaps not at QC but somewhere else?

Could you please provide a link so I and others can take a look?
Thank you!

Yellow Brick Road
It uses fat quarters, and you can easily complete the top in a day. Here's a crib size picture.
