Default Serger help

Recently purchased a Brother 1040d serger. When i depressed the foot pedal the speed was fast and it did not matter how much I depressed it. I forgot to put the lever down before I started to sew. The fabric jamed after cutting and quit sewing. I cleaned the mess up and started again. Now I have to turn the hand wheel to get it to sew but the foot pedal is now fine and I can adjust speed when I depress it. Can anybody tell me why I have to start it by turning the hand wheel!

I would see what is under the needle area and clean it out. Make sure, too, that the thread is not hung up somewhere.

Your machine needs oiled. Open your looper cover and turning the hand wheel, watch what moves, put a drop of oil on any area that moves. While you have the looper door open, make sure there is no lint build up between the cutting blade and the machine frame or under the feed dog.
