Hi, thanks for your response! I have taken the top off of the machine and examined the belt. It seems to be in place find and everything seems to be turning smoothly. I had just recently had the belt replaced when I took the machine to be serviced.

As for the plug, is just a simple single port on the side of my machine. I had tried unplugging it and plugging it back in when I was trying to troubleshoot the issue.

I am thinking that the issue has to do with whatever connects the motor to the needle itself, but I am still learning about the mechanics of sewing machines, and will have to do more research.

What connects the motor to make the needle move is the belt to the balance/hand wheel. The motor is the driving pulley and the hand/balance wheel is the driven pulley as illustrated http://www.engineeringexpert.net/Eng...riving-pulleys As the balance/hand wheel rotates it drives other things in the machine. There is a pdf that Henderson Sewing has that describes how the machine works https://www.hendersonsewing.com/imag...hines_work.pdf While it shows an older machine, the principle is the same.

Since you say the hand wheel works smoothly and moves the needle and the motor runs when you press the foot controller. I'm pretty sure it is something to do with the belt between the motor and the hand/balance wheel. On the old machines with the motor on the outside of the machine, it is fairly easy to adjust. The tension on the belt needs to be enough to turn the hand/balance wheel, but not too tight as it puts a lot of strain on the motor. My suggestion is to take the top off and watch as you press the pedal. Is the belt is rotating, but not moving the hand wheel? Is the belt not moving at all?

It's possible that a set screw that holds the spindle to the motor is loose or fell out. This may seem odd - but it's what happened my LA. Everything worked perfectly by hand, but when the motor was running, the needle would not go up and down.

When opened, it was real obvious what the problem was - one screw had fallen out and was in the bottom and the other was loose. Turns out both our dealer and the HQ rep DH had been talking to had never seen this happen before. Sure was glad the problem turned out to be completely mechanical and a very easy fix.

yes We are confused by your statements. first post said, " When I press down on the pedal, the motor is running but the needle does not move.."

Do you have variable speed at all with the motor running? Does it only run when it is plugged into the wrong side of the block ( (as pictured)

And BTW I was the one who shot the pic Janey posted . But she and others are welcome to use anything I post here. She is a great woman.

Thank you. I was hoping it was okay. It is a great picture. I like the size - 899x1000 pixels and 402kb. I have been using 480x640 pixels - 200-300kb, but with the new QB format, I'm not liking that size.

I have a label maker that I made labels for one of mine - makes it easier to read. For the motor blocks in a portable case, it is sometimes hard to see. I think on those, I just leave those plugged in and unplug the main one to the house current.

Iceblossom was the one with the motor block like the picture -- It just raced when plugged into the wrong side. When she plugged it to the proper side, the controller did not do anything. Hopefully her Hubby will be able to fix it.

The opening poster - redlipclassic - is the one that can hear the motor running, but it evidently does not move the hand wheel.

sounds to me like you have accidently hit something to put it into winding the bobbin mode, You will hear the motor run, but the needle will not move. Just a thought.
