I'm totally with you on this! Got mine about 5 years ago at Hancock Fabrics and I love it! It has auto shut off but heats up in a flash when you need it!!

I really like my Oliso. I got it at JoAnns. It's american made in California. My favorite feature is the little feet that come out when you take your hand off the handle. You never have to tip it up to let go of it. I haven't dropped this one on the floor or knocked it off the ironing board. I have dents in the floor from my old iron. Also, it heats up very quickly. I love it. You can usually use coupons to get it for a bargain.

Ditto on the Shark Professional. Reasonable price, comfortable to use and I love the pre-measure steam cup. Also, it's virtually indestructible.

I think the cheaper the better. My suggestion is to get in the habit of unplugging your iron when your done, then you never have to second guess yourself as to whether you have turned off your iron. Some of my quilting friends have bought the expensive irons but have been disappointed by their short life span.

I just bought a new GE at Wal-Mart yesterday. Gets hot fast, is steam or dry. Some are just steam now. Had to return one. My Rowenta was leaking. UUGGGGG

I have a gravity feed iron. It is wonderful. I wouldn't be without it.
I also do as someone else mentioned here. When my Ott light on my sewing cabinet is on, I know that the iron could be on too (I try to remember to turn it off as I leave the room). I just turn them both off on a power cord button when I'm done for the day.
This works for me too. You can't forget the iron when you do this. It shuts off automatically when you click the power cord button. 8-)
