But fabric is fabric, doesn't matter how you got it!
Over 90% of all my quilts go to charities and my amount to spend on fabric is very low. I am getting low on fabric and thought maybe getting kits just for the fabric would be a way for me to go.

Out of all the kits I have bought I have made probably three, the rest have gone in my stash as fabric.

I have a friend who does this. She buys kits from eBay; incomplete, half made, etc. Then she mixes and matches with her stash and other kits and somehow always comes up with some genius fabric combination that is absolutely stunning and knocks the socks off the rest of us.

I just bought a clearance Christmas quilt kit for the fabric. A couple of the blues, and one of the whites don't scream Christmas. Super cheap. It was less than $10.

I think it is a great idea. If I like the fabric combination, I keep it together. I have some fiber boards that my husband cut into 5 inch by 12 inch pieces. I fold these combinations in such a way that all of them show and stack them in a basket. If I am not wild about the combination, I break it up and store it by color with the rest of my stash. I have gotten some really interesting fabrics this way and have been nudged into color combinations I have not used before.

Me neither. However, I did buy several from Craftsy during their sale for $13 to make bags. I also purchased several charm packs for $3 each and yardage to match for $4 per yard. It was a great sale as I can get two or more bags out of one jelly roll.

Yes, if they are fabric you would use.

My experience is to only buy from reputable companies since they want repeat business or pre-packaged kits. As for Jelly Rolls, the best price I found was from an ebay seller who sells Moda and other good fabrics. Just search "Moda Jelly Rolls". Not $8-$9 but definitely a better price than other online stores.

Our LQS has a Block of the month. I wait and get them later at 1.00 a block. Just for the material, and to make orphan blocks. If you have a Tuesday Morning in your neighborhood check out there material. Packages of charm squares are 5.00, Jelly rolls are around 19. for the 42 strips. All Bernatex brand.
