I have been thinking about getting clearance quilt kits just for the fabric. I was wondering if anyone else has ever done this before, and if it is a wise thing to do?

Hi Craft- I think it's a great idea if the price is right and you like the fabric. I've done that and have been very pleased.

I am getting short on fabric and thought this might be away to build my fabric back up. I make a lot of scrap and string quilts.

I do it all the time - recently got 2 jelly rolls, 1 yard + a pattern for only $17. Given that jelly rolls are usually $8-9 each and patterns are $10, I think I got a bargain.

Craftsy (Blueprint) and Connecting Threads have some great deals on kits right now. I purchased two kits and several precut items for 60-70% off. They are always generous with the amount of fabric in their kits.

I've done it several times. If the pattern isn't all that popular, it may go on clearance at a cost that is very cheap per yard. I have found that I have to take it out of the kit and put it in my stash, otherwise I start thinking that maybe I should make the kit - even though I didn't like the pattern!

My Craftsy kits have been on the stingy side recently. They used to be more generous.

I have put fabric from kits into stash, but only because I decided I didn't like the pattern. I've quit buying kits almost entirely. Time to use the stash I already have!

The block of the month kits are also a great way to practice skills you need.

But fabric is fabric, doesn't matter how you got it!
