I absolutely love stars!! I love your fabric. Do you have more of it or do you have to use different fabric for the next block? I would at least make a runner out of this, at the least. If it were me, I would go ahead and make a quilt out of it. You seem like you know what you are doing.

This was my thought when I saw it in the catalog. I am probably doing it wrong based on directions but who cares as long as it comes out looking the same.

I would finish your "scrap" one that is pictured just as it is,with the center block, of course, and move on to your "good fabric" this will be a good little table topper or candle mat or wall hanging, depending on the size. You have done very well so far!

If you think you have it figured out, then do the one you have planned and come back and make another using scraps. It would make a great scrappy.

Not everyone has a lot of experience as you have. Patterns are great for telling inexperienced quilters what size to make all the pieces.
