In my experience, it usually shrinks a lot more in one direction than the other. Sometims it is lengthwise, sometimes it is crosswise.

Yup starch shrinks...So starch before cutting or don't starch pre cut bundles...I've made this mistake and lost 1/4 inch on one side...
OH another helpful hint I've found...If your seams are off just starch the area shrinks and chances are you can then match up your seams...been there done that too

But paying all that money for the convenience of pre-cuts --- and then AFTER you use them in a quilt, they would still shrink unevenly when you wash the quilt? I have been trying to talk myself into using some pre-cuts, but I haven't yet.

Have had an on going discussion with my sister...to wash or not to wash. I have always been a washer. When I went to my Quilt group...I asked and there was one other person besides me who pre-washes. I still don't really know, but having made clothes before, I always washed before using. Think I will continue to do so!

I spray starch and press all my precuts ... just because! You'll also find out if the dyes will run. I have a press cloth to prove that some have!
