You made me laugh, Jan. Yes, my Texas house is built on a "slab" of concrete.....and sometimes these slabs shift and you end up with fine cracks in your walls. That's Texas soil for you.

I had never heard the term "slab" when referring to a quilt, either. We're adding to our descriptive language today.

Sparky's Mom missed your thread. This was the first time I heard the term. Considering the hours I spend on quilting sites, kind of amazing.

A box of beer? Is that anything like boxed wine?

When you google "Slab Quilt", and go to images....they don't make sense. I mean there is no rhyme or reason to them. Never heard of this term in reference to quilting before.

now that i know what a 'slab' quilt is; how does it differ from a 'crumb' quilt, if i make the crumb blocks all one colour?

I personally think the term slab quilt(ing) is this person's way of pretending she has something original and can "sell" the idea.........so much of that seems to be happening between tutes and blogs and Pinterest, etc........just re-hash an old idea and give it a new name.

It looks like "slab" quilts are just more organized crumb blocks, everything seems to be in rectangles and monochromatic. I really like the look, personally. I'm always looking for a new creative way to use my scraps.
