I would press away from the center, towards the strip you just added. Mostly because that means I'm not trying to "fold" any seam lines. If you press towards the center, the seam from the earlier block stitching has to fold over itself. Pressing out seems to create a smoother result.
Overall though, I don't think it matters one way or the other. There aren't any seams to match later, so direction is pretty much up to you.
