DD (17) told me she thought she might like to make a quilt just to see what it was like. Trouble was, she's never sewn anything before. Well, last Monday while in Hancocks, I came across a Janome Sew Mini on sale for $49. It weighs just 5 pounds, does only straight and zigzag, has just one foot and not much power. Just the thing for DD to learn on. I figured if she didn't like it, I'd have a small machine to travel with. I took it home, took her to Joanns for some supplies and started her out on making a "sewer's apron". We went from there to rotary cutting and a simple 9 patch with 4inch squares. By Friday, she was hooked!! Nice corner matching and everything. She says, "Wow Mom, this is really fun!".... By the time Saturday came around, we just HAD to go to the fabric store and look at fabric and she's already looked through my books and picked out her next couple of projects..... haha! another one bites the dust!! LOL

DH was calling us "bookends" this weekend. It was fun sitting there, chatting about all sorts of things. I am really going to miss her when she goes to college next fall.

Mine graduated from hs early--so she left at 17. :( She came home every other weekend her first year--but transferred to another college this year and loves it. This past weekend was the first she's been home since August. Sigh... it's a change for sure. We did all the fun stuff while she was home--shop, buy apples, get hair cuts, stay up late chatting. :D It's always sad for me when she leaves--every single time. When she hated going back last year--I couldn't even take her; I'd cry all the way home. Her Dad took her, but he didn't like it either. At least she's happy to return now.

Our son comes home nearly every weekend.

    The quiet gets nice.

DD's been accepted to a school about 1 1/2 hours away, so not too far. She's really excited about it. Until then, we'll have lots of fun.

I keep hoping someday that I will get one of my 3 DDs to quilt with me. They all love my quilts and keep wanting another one. Mine are 21, almost 27 and 24 1/2. I keep telling them that the first one to show an interest gets my old Pfaff sewing machine, which still works like a charm. I think it would b e great to have one of them quilting by my side I did many years ago, have them all cross-stitching with me at one time. They get too busy in college and young married life!!!

Wow! Reading your post was like Deja Vu!

My DD has never wanted to sew at ALL - wouldn't even look at patterns, etc!! But she does like crafts, so we went to Joann's on Friday to see about Christmas crafty stuff, despite the mob.

Well, we couldn't find the craft stuff we were looking for. She wandered around and came to look for me in fabrics (OF COURSE!) She said "do you think they have any baby fabric with jungle animals on it?" I had just looked at the baby fabrics, since she is having my first grandchild in March, and yes, they did have a cute line called Jungle Babies.

Guess what? She loved it! Had to have it! We found a very easy pattern and she is making her first quilt!!! You could have knocked me over with a feather, I was that shocked and pleased!

I am going to miss her too, since she will be living in Valdosta, GA by Spring, just after the baby is born. Maybe she will really be hooked on quilt making by then so we have another thing to keep in touch about!
