A friend of mine has a store bought quilt. She needs to know how to soften it. It seems it is real stiff. She tried fabric softner. No use. Any suggestions?

That is a good question. I don't think anything except use will actually relax a "hard" quilt. It may be that the batting is the culprit, or that it is quilted too closely. I find that machine quilting too closely can make a quilt feel hard. :?

It could be too closely quilted, or it could have synthetics in it. If imported, it may have been sprayed with all sorts of chemicals in the finishing process.

Maybe it will be like denim...the more times it is washed and dried, the softer it will get.
