I like smaller quilts for snuggling up on the couch with. I'm rarely out flat on the couch so I don't need the extra length and the larger the quilt the heavier and harder to manage it is. I made my husband an extra long one because he is 6'4" and he wanted something that would go to his chin to beyond his toes. It is way too big and bulky for me but that's fine because it's his and not mine. You can make quilts whatever size you want and what you like best.

When I have a quilt that needs width, I tend to add a row of scrap blocks of the fabrics used in the quilt. Here's a photo of one I made for my 2nd niece................I actually added these little blocks to the whole quilt but you can add them to just the sides. On another one I'm working on I added flying geese at either end as I needed to make it longer. Had a bunch of them already made up so was able to use up the scraps.

I've just finished the top of my first Bargello. I'm making it for my eldest DGS who at almost eighteen is 6"8". I added five extra colours to make it longer. I will add an extra border on the sides to make it wider.
