I always ask for a box of chocolate covered cherries and for my son to take me out to dinner - don't care where- even McDonald's - just having the 2 of us is present enough for me - this year he said he's getting me gift card to Joann's!

Please go. This year you might feel uncomfortable, but if you go this year, then next year will be better. And you can start a "new" tradition of being included. Your grandkids will love having you there.
I agree. We have a family party at our house every year for my 6 siblings, spouses, kids and my parents. It's 40 with a few GGC now (and two more new members on the way). After DH's dad died (his mom died many years ago), we decided to include his siblings and their families too. The first year was awkward but now they all look forward to seeing each other and it's like one big family instead of two. Best decision we ever made. Go!

Mary M, I too hope you will go to your DD. Your DD will be more at peace having you with her instead of worrying about you being all alone. It is only for one day. Certainly your grandchildren will love having you there too. It must be so hard loosing your husband, especially during Christmas time. I am so sorry for your loss.

I dunno but I do KNOW you are not alone. I noticed today I can see through mine.

I think gift certificates for LQS or JoAnns, or Hobby Lobby are all great. That way you can get what you really want!!

this year we mentioned to the children, grnd children and greats. that we were giving all our Christmas money to Charity, and we hoped that they would feel it in their hearts to do the same. THeir gifts to us would be the wonderful memories that we treasure in our hearts. It has been wonderful to get replies stating that they too, are giving to charity in our honor. Hope this spurs some true giving from the heart.

We don't even get a Christmas card from our daughter and usually not a phone call until she wants something.

MaryM, I feel that you should go ahead and go to your daughters house for the holidays, you all have lost somebody special this year and you need to be there for each other.

One of the nice ones that I got one year was from a colleague at work. He got his wife to pick out 5 pieces of coordinating fabric for me...I was in heaven.
