I think it looks great as is! I love the snail's trail for this theme! If anything (not that it needs anything), what about an applique of something from the movie or of Halloween? The moon with Jack in it would be great! Or a ghost or a cat, whatever?

One other possibility if appliqué is not your thing: I did a search of "Nightmare Before Christmas fabric" and there is fabric and buttons available on eBay and Amazon- other places also.

Just an FYI:
This is the Monkey Wrench/Churn Dash block:

What you made up in EQ is a Snail's Trail block:

;-) ;-) ;-)

I love Snail Trails quilts. One of these days I'm going to make the Shakepeare in the Park quilt by Judy Martin.

One of these days.
Actually we're both correct. :D I've heard Snail's Trail also commonly called Monkey Wrench in the past. Also, if you search "monkey wrench" in EQ5 you'll get both the Snail's Trail and the Churn Dash. :)

Eh, she's really not into "sparkly" things (interesting enough she is allergic to glitter). But the glow in the dark thread might be cool.

Oooh! A while ago I saw a YouTube video of someone using thread that changed color under a black light. That would be sweet! ...and it'd keep with the NBC theme as Oogie's lair was lit under black lights during his musical number.

That was my first thought until I saw they wanted $15 for a yard of striped Jack fabric. Yee-ouch!

Your design looks great to me ... very clever! Also, very kind that you would make your friend this very special quilt.

I think I'd add a narrow stop border...possibly a third (darker) shade of orange...in between the center pattern and the brick border. The two patterns as you have them don't mesh together evenly and a narrow band would make it less confusing.

I love your quilt! I completely agree with this though. Something needs to frame the center of the quilt to define and separate it from the border. The edges of the blocks as they are butted up against the border loose their impact a bit. But it is going to be AWESOME when you are done.

(on the inner borders) To quote Jack, "Of course! That's what I'm missing!"

I added an inner border and changed the sequencing of the colors on the brick border (so the two bricks in the corners will be opposite from the block its touching).

Great stunning work, my preference has been a triple frame on most of my quilts. try it in eq.
