I have an old wooden step ladder that works great. Then there's the other kind of ladder with rungs that you can lean against the wall.

http://www.needleandthreadnc.com/21512.html Here is a link to some that are being sold at my local quilt shop.
They are hand made by a local man and great quality. Good luck in whatever you choose. It will be from her son with love! SHE WILL LOVE IT! regardless!

Oh, it's beautiful and looks so nice with the chests she has. I love the idea of the plaque. Congratulations to your mom for a wonderful present and fabulous son.

If it is for displaying other than at home then look for photographers display equipment. They are called "backdrop stands". I have seen vendors at quilt shows that make and sell them. Most are for permanent installation in the home. You might also look in any large furniture store for the stand up racks. They are usually put at the end of the bed to hang the quilt over. Antique shops also have these.
If you want to put it permanently on the wall, then can go to the Home store and get wooden brackets and rods. I will try and search for the name of the company I have seen at the quilt shows.
