Starry Night Log Cabin

Here is a Judy Martin pattern that I used that I did modify. Where the dresden plate sunflowers are was supposed to be a pieced star. I did use a whole 12" piece of fabric where a pieced star was in the pattern but my reasoning was that it was going to be covered up with the dresden plate which I hand appliqued on so the extra seams would not been seen and would create bulk under the applique.

I don't think a solid white block would be an "imprudent" choice, and it would certainly be speedier. But like others have said, the variety and subtlety of many creams give it more interest, and the seams give it texture. Judy's patterns are like gourmet recipes, not fast food. LOL
