Default Starting My First Braid Quilt. Any Tips?

I have all the fabric cut. LOTS of it. Now I hesitate... I know what I like together, but there are so many fabrics. I don't want to mess it up.

perhaps this Google Images search will give you some ideas. notice that some braids go from dark to light and some are scrappy and some repeat just a few colors. it's your quilt... you can make it look any way you desire

Sew accurately and check every once and awhile to make sure your strip is not curving to the right or left.

When I made my FB I laid all my fabrics out in order in a pizza box and sewed from the same direction on all the rows!!!

The ends are probably cut on the bias - so be careful in handling the strips that you don't stretch them too much. Pin, pin, pin, when putting the strips together. I had fun doing mine and want to do another one with a Christmas jelly roll that I have.

be sure to starch! If you can, add the borders before trimming off the points, it's more stable that way.

I go with what klgls and katier825 say. My mistake was not being careful with the bias sides. That turned into a problem. the quilt was for me, so I quilted the daylights out of it and I do like it. I read somewhere that stay stitching the sides before you cut the points off is also an option.

French braid quilts tend to be very carefully laid out in a color progression, but not all braid quilts are French braids. From your post, it sounds like yours is not. Some braids can be scrappy. This shows a mix of braid quilts, some French and some not... https://www.google.com/search?q=brai...&bih=628&dpr=1 Pick out the look that you like and work from there.

Starch, starch, starch, before you sew. Press seams but don't "iron" them. The bias edges tend to get out of hand quickly. So stop everyonce in a while and "square up". I think a French Braid has a square that runs between the strips as an accent square and a "Braid" is like a hair plait.
