We have a prayer shawl group at our church, and we donate them to others in the community, not just the church, and we just started donating to a local cancer center. It sounds like you have a wonderful idea going. Good luck and best wishes!

Sounds like a good idea to me. Have fun and this way they can work on all types of crafts. also others can teach the other ones, will be a fun way to make crafts and socialize with others, just have everyone to bring a covered dish and enjoy!

My church has a group called Companionship quilters. They make all of the dedication blankets, grief quilts and (sick) for lack of better word quilts. They get together night a month for teaching then last saturday of the month is friendship day we get together all day to sew with out kids. I love it reminds me of this group. 2 times a year we have ufo retreats. Love the fellowship we have! I say go for it.

we meet once a week,(today!,wednesdays) at the senior center. we have extra sewing machine, we got off of freecycle or were donated, so the older ladies don't have to haul thier machines in.
i so look forward to the wednesday get togethers! i seem to get more done in a group setting. usually we average 7 to 10 ladies. they have the big tables so we can pin quilts too!
