    Wink Steam-a-seam

Our sewing group have decided our project for the year we are doing a Laura Heine wall hanging. It tells us to use Steam-a-seam. It is quite expensive so does anyone suggest an alternative that won’t cost as much. Thanks

Steam a seam or steam a seam lite are worth the price. Fabric pieces can be placed and they will stick together without the aid of pins or final ironing. Worth it for a large piece. Nothing is permanent until ironed.

My silly questions....what is steam a seam for? Do you have to steam it to the fabric? Why do people buy it?

A lot of us use Steam-a-seam for applique.

I have a box of Steam=a=seam lite, somewhere in the packed-to-move boxes. For postage I'll send it to you.

I first used it on a Melinda Bula flower applique. There were several layers of fabrics that formed a giant 18-20 inch zinnia. The steam a seam allowed placement of the fabric petals to each other in layers. They stuck together but could be repositionable if one was misplaced or needed to be moved. After layering, the entire flower could be lifted up like a giant sticker and it held together. Once it was in place on the background, it was ironed and became permanent. Other fusbiles that I have found, have to be ironed to stick and they are permanent.

I believe JAF has it and with a coupon, it is well worth the cost.

I agree. I took an collage class from Laura Heine and she insisted we use Steam-A-Seam. It was so easy to use. Pieces stick where they are and are repositionable until they are fused with heat.
