Straight line quilting questions
#41
You have received a lot of great advice on this thread! My personal recommendation is not to do SITD but instead just use the edge of your walking foot as a guide to sew down both sides of the seam line in a light colored thread. Grid quilting like this looks great and is much easier to do than SITD. And no marking needed.
Then you could do a line or two down the middle of each block depending on how much quilting your batting calls for. Or do a diagonal line using painters tape as your guide.

My first few site quilts were really " stitch near the ditch". Sitd is a lot harder than you think. I like to do randomly wavy lines instead, and in the center of each rail as opposed to near the ditch. Then you can still get good practice of your control, and soften the hardness of straight lines. Wish i could draw you a little picture, but don't have that technology, yet.

yes, I never stitch actually In The Ditch over the piecing stitches. I pull slightly on the fabric and stitch very close. other than that, I do 1/4 stitches next to the seams. looks good too. Good luck.
